Woke up dreaming of big things for our first full day of ministry in San Jose, Costa Rica.

My new team, Radiance, & I started the day with a time of ATL or Ask the Lord. ATL is a phrase my team uses to describe a time of prayer where we ask God what he would like us to do for the day, where he wants us to go, & who he wants us to speak to. Unsure of what God might’ve been saying to me, I simply prayed for ministry opportunities. After our time of ATL, we came together as a team & shared what prompting we had received.

One teammate received the image of a man in a green hat & the word of knowledge that he would be “estranged from his children”… he even wrote a blog titled Man in a Green Hat about his encounter with this man later in the morning.

We were in the middle of expressing how we believed we wouldn’t have to go far to do ministry. One of my teammates specifically expressed how she believed it would be “in moments as we’re sitting still…” & as she was still speaking the words “sitting still” a blind man with a white cane approached us. Just like that we received an answered prayer.

We stepped down the stairs & introduced ourselves to one another. He showed us the small pack on his back & shared how he had supplies to shine our shoes for a low cost. Each day he would walk this part of town hoping to make enough money to cover his daily rent charge. When he realized we were all in sandals & unfit to utilize his services he asked if we could give him some money to help him cover his rent & some groceries. We offered to pray with him & then one of my teammates took him to the local store to get some groceries. We specifically prayed for new vision.

It got me thinking of what life might’ve been like for him before he lost his vision. Maybe he dreamed of big days fulfilling each desire according to his will. Maybe he was an adventurer & a doer! Now he goes about his day one step at a time reliant on his white cane to guide his direction.

It got me thinking about how even though we have big dreams & plans for our lives, God does too & His are even better! If we don’t slow our role & allow him to guide our every step, then maybe we will miss what’s right in front of us.

In the same way that the man who is blind is dependent on his white cane to guide his step, I pray that I can be dependent on God’s guidance & direction.

Today I choose to look at what’s right in front of me.
